"Hall of Fame" page for games and other media I like and recommend you check out. It's not meant to be at all exhaustive — I just want a space to celebrate art that isn't tied to some external site like Backloggd or Goodreads. I'm starting off with just games, but I'll expand to other stuff later on.

Freeware (Itch.io)

Itch.io's been an incredible hub for online indie dev for ages. I've played hundreds of rad games on there, and I've met a number of good friends.

If you want a more exhaustive rundown of itch games I enjoyed, here are my annual "Games I Loved" collections: 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016.

Commercial (Itch.io)

Itch.io games are DRM-free, so when you buy a game on itch, you actually own it! Many of the games below are available on Steam, but given the choice it's always better to have real control over your purchases. You can find many other excellent DRM-free releases on GOG, MangaGamer, DLSite, and JAST.

Freeware (Other Sites)

Itch.io is great, but we should always be antsy about putting all our eggs in one cultural basket. There are still many good freeware releases that are only available elsewhere, especially older works. Glorious Trainwrecks, the Flashpoint Archive, and the IF Archive are particularly good resources to check out. (Any games below that link to Flashpoint can be played with their Infinity launcher.)

Retro

The internet's exhaustively mined the retro game canon for content over the last 2-3 decades online. You probably don't need me to tell you that Chrono Trigger or Super Mario 64 are worth your time. Here are a smattering of retro console and PC games I really adore that are hopefully a little less overexposed.
